I Am From 

Emma Wilkinson

I am from sleeping with stuffed animals and my mom tucking me in at night.

I am from eating salads and pasta at restaurants because they are my favorite foods. 

I am from going to my trailer and going on trails with my brother Carter. 

I am from falling on a fence running from a “rabid” squirrel and having to get stitches. 

I am from hanging out with Ari on the weekends having fun and joking around. 

I am from going to the pen center after school and meeting new people. 

I am from doing Christmas crafts with my sister Ashley. 

I am from watching a lemon circle the ferry going to the Statue of Liberty. 

I am from waking up in my bed and falling asleep in my bed. 

I am from my mom waking me up on Sunday morning for a big breakfast.

I am from having milk and cookies with my Dad. 

I am from breaking fortune cookies on our heads when we get them. 

I am from competing in gymnastics and getting gold on beam. 

I am from missing my first pets Molly and Jazzy.

I am from many things but one thing I will always be is me.

From my grandma reciting, “If the baby never cries, it never gets milk.”

From my grandpa frequently saying, “Eat your protein.”

I’m from Christianity, but only go to church on Easter.

I’m from chicken wings and pizza.

From the dad that lived a hard life growing up in Toronto.

From the Italian family, loving mother, Tobermory trips in the summer.

I’m from the love in the food me and my family make.

And I am from my loving, and caring family.

I am from being the oldest child in the family to being the oldest of 4 children 

I am from the turkey dinners on christmas and setting up the christmas tree with my dad every year 

I am from playing video games all the time with my dad  

I am from the house being on the bottom of a very quite and very lonely hill

I am from flowers in the flower garden in my front lawn and a pear tree and my backyard

I am from the “things in life take time” to the “it’s not about the end result, it’s about the journey to get there”

I am from going to P.E.I. visit my mom every year in the summer 

I am from the feeling of wanting a better life and wanting to stay where we are

I am from St. catherines while my whole family is from thorald  

I am from the sister i got when i was two years old to my dad having a twin in the family

I am from playing baseball with my dad in a large field when i was younger

I am from staying up late and playing games with my brother every night

I am from the sleepovers with my brother every weekend and going to my moms every week

I am from playing Call Of Duty zombies with my dad every night and having nightmares about it when i was younger

Waking up early on Christmas morning to the smell of fresh baked cookies.

I am from Learning how to ride a bike, imagining I could fly.

I am from playing the floor is lava with my siblings.

and the sound of him learning to fly.

I am from helping my dad restore his car.

I am from late nights at hockey.

I am from rainy days and board games.

I am from movie night on Friday nights.

I am from from jumping over the waves at the beach

and the sand on my feet.

I am from staying with my cousins for the weekend.

I am from the tattered memories of who I used to be.

I am from the first pair of skates that helped me find the perfect balance on the ice.

I am from the times outside where my father would teach me how to shoot the puck harder and faster than everyone else. 

I am from that one red house on the corner of the street that no one talks about.

I am from the house that’s yet so big but yet so silent. 

I am from the late nights where there’s light and soft rain outside, it may have been wet but it felt correct. 

I am from the late Saturday nights at my nona’ house just listening to everyone talk about their lives.

I am from the weekends making tomato sauce at my nona’s house.

I am from my cousins coming down from the other side of the country just to come and see my family.

I am from waking up in the middle of the night hearing my parents moving around.

I am from the late nights hearing motorcycles driving up and down the street in the middle of the night.

I am from the kids running around outside.

I am from the silences of being alone.

I am from the times where I would beg to stay outside a little bit longer. 

I am from the times where I would eat as fast as I can just to go back outside quicker.

I am from all the times when my friends and I would run over to their pools just for the fun of it.

                                    It’s the only thing he knows how to make.

                                   I am from driving to Ontario every summer until we moved 

                                   I am from decorating the christmas tree every winter 

                                   I am from staying after school to help Mr Haggerty clean 

                                   I am from tent meetings in Lilis basement

                                   I am from going to Lilis house everyday before school

From being told that mom has eyes in the back of her head and that it was illegal to turn the lights on in the car at night

From the sister developing epilepsy and seeing our family watch her as she struggles to come to term with it.

I  am from where the sun shines the most, from crawling on the ground to playing  with 

My toy car.

I am from feeding my pet bird’s and the lovely noise they make being his favorite person just feeding his fav.

I am from  my grandma’s backyard climbing the tree’s and jumping on my little trampoline.

I am coming from the basketball court , from there to home just for some water of course .

I am from  playing video games , late at night just to wake up and be tuck in my very tight feeling that just felt very right. 

I am from playing uno with my friends for skips to revere’s it just felt very right. 

I am from taking out the , trash it was not ideal but i did away 

And smelling that  stuff that you mom threw away. 

I am from watching my favorite tv shows . movies youtube and much more

I am from playing  traditional games ,with my sister, from having fun, to  arguing with each other.

I am getting home on the third day of high school. It’s fine , alright it was pretty cool.

I am from my dad saying no and taking my video game.

I am from Jamaica . The plane ride was fun and so were the people coming to canada and was the best that I ever did .

I am from reading my favorite books from the diary of a wimpy kid to reading horror books.

I am from traveling Jamaica from going to the beaches to knowing every jerk chicken stop anywhere.

I was playing cricket with me until  one day  the ball landed on my nose. It was not very painful because I was in shock but it still happened and I won;t forget.

My gray stuffed elephant,

Who helped me fall asleep.

From playing with plastic fake food and Polly Pockets.

I am from the yellowish green walls of my sweet condo.

Warm, bright

The birds chirping that awoke me.

I am from beautiful orchids,

The bright colours of pink and yellow that shine on rainy days,

The wonderful smell that lingers throughout the house.

I’m from singing happy birthday with a cake at 12 AM, 

On a family member’s birthday.

I am from my mom and dad,

Constantly being told ”I love you” and “be careful”.

I’m from the Philippines and Toronto.

Ube, warm, sour soup.

The aroma of my mom’s amazing cooking.

I am from the scars I got,

Racing my sister down a roller coaster line,

From the laughter and fun I had with my older sister,

The parking lot she taught me how to ride a bike in.

I’m from the safe arms of my mother,

The way she makes me comfortable,

Especially when I feel down.

in a pot under the stove.

From Country Crock and whole milk.

I am from the screen door

that slapped shut during storms.

From tornado alley, cow patties,

and rain flooding the pasture.

I am from the forsythia bush

that scratched like fingernails

outside my bedroom window.

I’m from Christmas breakfast at PawPaw’s

and fishing in the muddy cow pond.

From Mattie Bell, Faye, and Jane.

I’m from the late-night record playing

and farmer tans. 

From “don’t backtalk me”

and “one day things will be better.”

I’m from the little church in Ethridge

flanked by corn fields.

I’m from Flatwoods and Scottish horse thieves.

From homemade mashed potatoes and

skinned doves floating

in a bowl in the fridge.

From the creek where Momma almost drowned

and Daddy pulled her on top of the truck. 

From the Old Charter, county jail, and country roads

that go forever.

I am from the clock my great-grandmother

needle-pointed, hanging in the kitchen, counting

all the hard times 

and all the really good times too.

I am from the red bricked house where you can see the nice sunset clearly.

From the smell of the pumpkins spice candles and the nice autumn breeze through the windows.

From the fresh roses and flowers growing in my garden.

I am from the black converse shoes and silver  earings.

I’m from swimming in our pool during summer when the weather is nice and warm.

From being understanding of people and respectful.

I’m from the christmas dinners with my family every year.

From the being told to always give back to the people who need it.

I’m from the lack of understanding.

I’m from wanting to become a psychiatrist or lawyer in the future.

From the patient and caring household.

I’m from the long car rides when driving to a resort when we go on summer vacation.

From the friends that call me when i’m upset and the caring parents i have.

I’m from talking to my sister when somethings wrong and being close with your family.

Most importantly i’m from the always caring and talking to other people when they need it.
